    Badlands Set#2

Here are more captures from Saturday's Badland trip from up north of Toronto. As I mentioned in my last post that I wished we had better lighting for that morning but it was still nice to see and fun to photograph.

Very interesting terrain. Are you able to walk anywhere or is it fenced off? Did you try any HDR shooting?
I like the shrub in the first shot, nice to add some colour. Was it cropped? I wonder if you changed the scaled just a tad bit, and made the shrub just a little smaller, it would have more impact??? Just a thought.
    All very nice.

Yes it is very interesting indeed, and yes you can walk around anywhere here and no it is not fenced off at all. AS for HDR I do have 2 sets of them but have not worked on those yet, wanted to work on the Credit River images that I think you will enjoy them.
I liked that as well, just adds to the image, and yes cropped a bit but I think I have another one that I pulled back on the zoom that I can try and edit and see what the out come is like and you might be right about a bit more impact will see when I can can edit that one, maybe when I do the HDR ones. Thanks for the comments and your suggestions Don.

Interesting images Dennis. The texture and the colors turned out nicely. What created this place or is it a desert?

Thanks larkspur and yes I agree that this place is very interesting indeed and a place that I plan on going back to again. The textures and colours are nice, but in the right lighting it would be even better. Here is the information that I foound on this place as this is north of Toronto and we don't have deserts in Canada.

“Badlands” is a geologic term for an area of soft rock devoid of vegetation and soil cover that has become molded into a rolling landscape of rounded hills and gullies. Such areas are rare in Ontario and this is one of the best examples. They exhibit the reddish hue of the Queenston Shale that forms them; the iron oxide in the shale produces this colour. The narrow greenish bands that can be seen throughout the shale are due to the change of red iron oxide to green iron oxide brought on by the circulating groundwater. The relatively soft shale is essentially clay and is easily eroded by water. This site was acquired by the Ontario Heritage Foundation in 2000 and is under the care of the Bruce Trail Association.

Well I'll be, who would ever know about Canada having a Dessert you learn something every day. Question for you, did you know this or did you do a Google search?

I found this info way back in grade 7 or 8 and recalled this when you made the comment. I had to Google to get the details

Are you kidding me? You remembered this way back when... That shows that you paid attention in school, and see it came in handy way down the road.
