Thanks Wayne. It is a Coopers Hawk.

Thank you Dennis. I happened to look out my window and saw the bird land in a tree, with his catch. It moved on and then relocated later to that particular tree, where I managed a few shots. He didn't have a care in the world that I was there. Unfortunately my neighbours son was shooting a hockey puck off his garage, which scared it off.

Thank you James. I'm glad to see that people have liked this image. The eye certainly does stands out on these birds.

Brian, we have hawks around our place almost every day now. So far I have seen the Coopers and Red-Tail and I think I spotted a Peregrine as well. Yesterday, a Coopers was trying hard to catch a pigeon, it was around a number of times, too bad the lighting was bad otherwise I would be out with the camera trying to get some images.

Lucky you Dennis. It seems like I see this bird once and a while. The local red-tail in my area is usually soaring high in the sky when I see him. The best backyard bird of prey for me was a merlin a few years ago. Luckily there was some sunshine when the coopers was around or I wouldn't have bothered trying.

Brian, nice shot... Dennis has seen them catching pigeons at home but never seems to have the camera ready. He is always telling me that he spotted the hawks outside...Would be nice for him to get one with a pigeon caught in the air.

This is really a nice image with the Coopers Hawks kill, the eye really stands out in the image and the bird sure seems to be protecting it's catch as mentioned.

Thank you both. Photographing one catching it's meal in flight would certainly be a great moment.
