    Northern Pintail Duck Portraits

Glen and I went out yesterday and we thought well it is not looking good, and funny I was looking for the Northern Pintail and did not see it. A gentlemen asked if we had seen it and we both said no and he said it is over here, got our stuff and headed over there and after 3 weeks of looking we finally captured the Pintail. One thing this Northern Pintail came in so close that all we could manage was head shots at first and we are talking 5 to 10 feet away. I will post some more of this bird in the next few days to come.

Oh my oh my, what stunning images. Would the 300mm and the teleconverter give me images like this Dennis? (I'm just at ah!).

I'm glad to see you guys finally saw him. He does come in close, which makes it tough to get full body shots, with larger lenses. I really like how the light brings out the additional colours in its head, on the second image. The mouth slightly open makes for a different portrait in the first one.

Thanks very much James, and to answer your questions yes you should be able to use that lens and converter combo and get shots just like these.

Brian, it took some time but finally and you are right that he sure comes in close, and too close for me most most of the time. I'm going to bring my full frame camera body with me next time I go out for that added room.
I agree with you about both images and that one with the extra colours in the head was nice to see when he turned his head just a bit so that I could see that, and the one with the beak open I really like that.

I got a kick at pulling Joe's chain about the Pintail...Now I can't bug him about that, and it is time to start with the Snowy I guess. Thanks again.

Thanks Wayne for your comments, and he came in arount 10 to 15 feet of us, and went out further but the ducks were all around making it harder to get some full body shots of him. I will be posting those today or tomorrow.
