    Monocular for Birding and Nature

Well not my idea, but when Glen and I went this past weekend, Glen pulled out a Monocular from his bag and showed it to me and I thought was it was light and small enough to carry around in a camera bag it it worked very well to see the birds in the distance. Not only that you can hang it over your neck and it does not get in the way like binoculars do, bounce around all over the place when you are walking around. Not only that with binoculars I need to take my eye glasses off and I'm always worried that they will drop in the water or even worse drop them on the ground and step on them and break them.

I asked Glen where he bought his so that I could get one of these the next day, he told me the place and that they did not many in stock but I was hoping to get the same one that he bought. I went to the store and sure enough they were out of stock and they had another model about twice the cost and I looked around a bit in the store before I made up my mind, and did not want to what over a month for the same model Glen had and nor did I want to make another trip up there and bought another type that they had in the counter.

The monocular are great, small as I mentioned to put in a camera bag, if you wear glasses not a problem you can use it even with your glasses on and not worry about breaking your glasses by taking them off.

The prices range for different models and types, in the first picture is the model Glen has and it sales for $45.19 and the second image the one I bought from the same place was $119.00, again I would have liked to spend a bit less but was not willing to wait or even head back up there later on.

    This is what Glen uses.

    This what I'm using.

The one that Glen has the focus wheel is tight, and you might have to use it a bit before it gets loose enough and on mine it is tight but not as much as the one Glen has. Not sure what the warranty of the Celestron, but on the Vortex model it is a lifetime warranty, even if you drop it and it breaks, send it back for repairs and no questions asked they will repair the unit.

The Celestron is much lighter than the Vortex model shown above, but I found it to be OK around the neck.

What a great idea Glen had Dennis with the monoclar scope, I would have never thought of this at all. I used to carry binoculars around with me all the time, and once I had to wear glasses myself I lost one pair and broke another pair all in one year and stop bring them with me any more because glasses are not cheap to replace. You said that you can use these with glasses, and now I have to head over to the sports store to check into these monocular's now.

Hmm... I am not sure how it would work with me. I am blind in 1 eye, and can't see out of the other.
