    January 2011 - Black & White

I hope every one's Holiday was a relaxing one, filled with great food, good friends and best of all memories. I know 2010 is a year I won't forget anytime soon and I have the pictures to prove it :)

I hope to generate some interest and get the camera's out, even at home. I know we all want to have the 'perfect shot' but I would like to remind you that this is not what this area is for. It's for fun, grainy, unprocessed, just take 'em as you see 'em, hey that's kinda neat photos.

This month's theme is black and white and something I haven't really played around with all that much and have a hard time picking what makes a good B&W photo.

Along with B&W, sepia or other variations will pass, just no color.

Also, if you have any ideas for this area, please shoot me a PM or an e-mail (rbustraen@gmail.com) and I'll work it into the year. I hope everyone is enjoying this area and it's so nice to see some posts and general chatter.

Found this today on a website and figured it was fitting of the weather up here for the last little bit...

"Many digital photographers actually prefer to shoot images for Black and White in low contrast situations. So an dark or overcast day can be a great time to shoot out door shots. Ironically these are the days that those who shoot only in color sit at home complaining about the ‘poor light’. So next time you find yourself with a dark and gloomy day – shoot some black and white shots."

Thanks for putting this in here as well Randy, I'm sure that this will come in handy for some of the members.

    Old Camerea

Well when Randy had this challenge as B&W I had a few ideas in my mind for this one, and here is my first image that I think is fitting for the first image.

Hi Randy, I thought that I woould start this one off for you. Yes that last image worked out very well and maybe should have put the ISO back down, but it turned out well just the same. Maybe also a smaller aperture as well, f/8 was not enough to bring the whole image into focus, but I still like it and the details that came out.

    HI Dennis and Randy.
I agree about the last shot, I like it best.
As it happens sometimes, I was playing around with B+W and adding grain to see what effects it had when I saw this post.
Here is the image I am playing with.
