    Auto WB

Hey all, well I'm like the rest of you and leave the Auto WB on the camera set to Auto all the time never switch it to the correct WB setting. Sometimes your subject is in the shade and I have taken many images of birds in the shade and almost every time I have a blue cast in the image, and Great Blue Herons look even bluer than ever, but I correct it in PS and can be a pain to get right.

Today, I decided to change the WB to Shade as I was shooting Wood Ducks, and got home and looked at the images no blue cast on the images at all, looked really good and saved some time for me in PS. Next time you may want to try this out with your camera, but remember to set it back to Auto again and that was why I leave it on Auto just for that reason but seeing the results I think if I need to shoot subjects in the shade again I will move it to the WB Shade mode.

I bought a "whibal" card a few years a go from Micheal Tapes (lens align guy) I works quite well, if you remember to bring out of your camera bag.

Troble Don very hard to get this right with the birds, but landscape and portrait shots would be perfect. Thanks for bringing this up as I need to take mine up with me to Algonquin Park. I also have the same one as you do and they are nice to have around.

The Whibal card is not the most convenient for bird photography. What I have done in the past, and should do more of is, take your test shot with the whibal in the same lighting conditions as the birds. When the lighting changes retake the test shot. It may not be perfect, but it does get you into the ball park.
